With a soulful blend of storytelling and melody, Naomi Campbell encompasses a hybrid of influences in her music. Known for her powerful and evocative vocals, she has enjoyed quite the evolution in the past few years. From her Country roots to Americana-influenced years with harmony outfit Motel Sundown, Naomi has recently embraced a wider Soul and R&B sound.
Originally from a small town in rural Ireland, Naomi moved to the vibrant musical hub of Liverpool in 2014 and has since supported the likes of Chris Helme (the seahorses), John Calvin Abney, Campbell/Jensen, and Muireann Bradley with shows at iconic venues such as the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room, Róisín Dubh, Galway and, the Betsey Trotwood, one of London’s more illustrious folk-hubs.
A string of releases enclosed Naomi’s live shows with her debut single Tuesday’s News ("a sobering yet life-affirming slice of acoustic folk” - Liverpool noise) released in March 2024. The Laurel Canyon inspired lull features Texas songwriter John Calvin Abney on Rhodes piano and Robert Johnson (Motel Sundown) on guitar and co-production duties. Naomi’s second release This is Gold followed in July.
A stylistic change in direction was partly inspired after performing classic Soul & Blues with Liverpool Arts Bar house band Tin Can Voodoo and piano duo stints at the famous Groucho Club in Soho, London. Performing in a more versatile style to her usual folk tendencies, Naomi felt confident enough to carry the sounds of the powerhouse vocalists of the 60s and 70s she loved into her own writing, starting a new era with her latest offering Don’t You Mind, released in November 2024. A live version of the track followed, recorded at the world renowned Sun Studio in Memphis, after an impromptu recording session tied in with a visit to the States for some shows.
Naomi finished up a fruitful 2024 with a full band headline show at the Jacaranda, Liverpool in December and a live session on BBC introducing North-West with Dave Monks, teasing her upcoming Country-Soul single Remembering, which is set for release in Spring 2025.
